Be Prepared In Time For WinterPosted in Tips & Advice on November 8, 2017
The warmth of the summer has now slowed up and days are far shorter. The lights are being turned on much earlier in the day as is the heating. Customers are now regularly calling us; their heating is being switched on and people are discovering problems with their heating or hot water systems.
And it is always when it starts to get cold that companies such as Greener Plumbing Ltd get urgent calls for boiler servicing, installations, but most definitely breakdowns and emergencies. Yes of course some of these just happen and it’s bad luck, but what we also like to remind our customers, is that they should check their boilers and heating systems before it gets vital to have the heating consistently on.
We would recommend that you:
- Switch your heating on for a period of time
- Check all the radiators are heating correctly and there are no cold spots. Some may need bleeding or flushing
- Check the thermostat and pump are both working correctly
- Check your pilot light is on
And don’t forget to get your chimney swept if the yearly sweep is due!
The timer will have been altered over the summer months, so ensure that you have updated the times for your boiler to come on, especially now the clocks have changed.
It is a good idea to carry out this procedure a couple of times throughout the summer, so nothing gets stuck and once the heating is turned on continuously, that any faults will have already been picked up before the cold weather started.
If however, you have no heating or hot water, then please call Greener Plumbing Ltd on 01435 868988 and we will arrange for one of our engineers to come out as soon as possible to assess the situation. If they can fix the problem on the spot, then this will be done, but if a part needs ordering or collecting, then a new time or date will be set. Most parts, if not in stock should be available within 24 hours.
Here’s hoping you won’t have any emergencies, but we look forward to hearing from you for all your routine plumbing and heating work.
